Group Evaluation

For this group assessment, i did question three (How Does it Work). I also put together the presentation website.
I enjoyed working in a group because the task could be easy spread through the group, instead of doing all the work by myself. Working as a group helps because you get to know more about how other people work.
Getting all the work submitted at the same time was difficult to do as a group.
I learned about the different ways other people do their work, how to work individually and as a group and how much effort a group needs to contribute in order for the presentation to be a success.
As a group we all worked together really well. There were no fights and we all agreed with each other when a new decision was introduced.
As mentioned in other blogs, the group task questions were spread within the group evenly. Each person was given two questions (except for myself because i created the website). Each person in the group will also present a part of the presentation. Every person in the group was enthusiastic when it came to the group work and contributed ideas.
I tried my best within the group and as an individual. I also did my share of the work.
I was good at contributing ideas and helping the other members in the group. Sometimes though, it did seem like a i was doing individual work, doing the website.
Perhaps i could help the other group members more in their research and the handouts.

Planning for the Final Presentation

At lunch today i worked more on my blog because most of the presentation was finished ! All the research has been put into the wix.com presentation. The handouts (designed by Krozina and printed by Clare) has all been printed.

A Few Presentation Problems

The presentation is almost complete but I'm afraid that it may be a bit boring. Most of the information is text and there are only a few visuals. Perhaps i might make the site more interesting. On a website i found there is a great animation on the different parts of the Respiratory System and how it works.

Completing the Final Presentation

The wix.com presentation is almost finished only three questions remain for the presentation. Bad habits, when things go wrong, the different parts and which doctor questions have been completed on both research and presentation.

More Research

http://www.helium.com/items/811513-how-does-the-respiratory-system-work

The walls of the alveoli are very thin and so the oxygen from the air travels to the surrounding capillaries (the red blood cells). Hemoglobin, a red blood cell protein helps the oxygen move through the air sacs to the blood. While this happens, the carbon dioxide from the air moves from the capillaries into the air sacs. The blood filled with oxygen, from the lungs, travel through the many networks of capillaries and into the pulmonary vein.

Problems within the Group

Kajal has had a few problems trying to find some bad habits effecting the Respiratory System. Clare and I have helped by brainstorming some ideas such as hay fever and smoking. These cause the respiratory system to malfunction, not work properly, become harder to breathe. The presentation date is almost here. There are only a few days until the due date. We are not very sure on how we will be teaching the class because we thought we could just read of the presentation. The handouts will be easy to explain though.

Decision Making

The group has set a date for the research to be sent in. By Monday 23rd of August all the information for the presentation will be sent. We had almost forgotten the handouts. We decided to allocate the handouts to Krozina. Clare agreed to print them out for us.

Link of the Presentation

The link for the final presentation is given below :

http://www.wix.com/fsanosa/Science

The website design is finished, all that is needed is the research which will be sent to me from the other group members. The website will not be accessable until it is published and because it is not yet done it is not published.

Research

Here is some of the summarised infromation:

The Respiratory System is the part of the body in which helps us breathe. The lungs and other chest muscles help us do this, but how does it work? Well when you inhale (breathe in) the diaphragm (the muscles located below the lungs, the main respiratory muscle) becomes tighter and moves downward. This leaves plenty of room in the chest cavity, so the lungs expand. After the lungs expand air travels up your nose or through your mouth, through the windpipe, bronchial tubes, into the lungs and then into the alveoli (air sacs).

Some Problems Encountered

Today we are in the usual classroom. After not having regular classes, due to year 9 selection talks and RAP program, we are having another laptop lesson, to work on our assignments. Research in the group has been completed. The wix.com website for our presentation is nearly completed, it only needs the information that the group has researched. The class handout will be created by Krozina and printed out before the final lesson by Clare. 25 copies of the handouts will be distributed to the class, as decided by the group.

Websites

So far i have found some good websites :

These websites have good information on the Respiratory System and how they work. So far i have summarised a bit of how the respiratory system works.

Problems and Other Changes in Decision Making

I started research last week, after creating my blog. Last lesson we weren't able to use the laptops because the laptops were down. At today's lesson we weren't able to use them either because some laptops are still down and because we weren't in the normal classroom (BG7).

My group also made an adjustment to the presentation. Instead of doing a power point presentation we decided to change to creating a website, using wix.com because we thought it would be more challenging and more exciting than doing a powerpoint. So far, the website's main page has mini pages attached to it for each question.

Group Decisions

The questions for the presentation have spread evenly through the group and each person will have their own job to do:
Kajal- Questions 2,4
Clare- Questions 5,7
Krozina- Questions 1,6
Me- Question 3 and the powerpoint.
We decided that because i only had one question, that i would do the presentation.

First Blog About Planning The Presentation

We are group 5, which was decided after the teacher pulled random groups out of a hat.
My group consists of Krozina, Clare, Kajal and myself. We are group 5 and we are doing our research on the Respiratory System.
The presentation, handouts, research and blog are all due on Thursday the 26th of August, third period. We are all allocated with a question to research about. Blogger.com is where the journal is being set up. All the instructions and questions for the task are all on StudentNet.
